My next entry to the foodie journal is the visit to the Ananthara Luxury Resort in Kaluthara for a traditional Sri Lankan-style afternoon tea “Sri Lankan afternoon tea” at just LKR 3000(net) and the “Traditional afternoon tea” for LKR 4800(net) enough for two people.

Once you settle down into their plush leather armchairs and marvel at the spectacular views of the lagoon as the sunsets in is definitely a mood setter and even better is that they serve their afternoon tea at the their “Upper Deck Lounge and Sports Bar” with a grand 3 tier platter which has a great ambience than one that I have felt different from when I had high tea in Colombo.

The traditional platter which we selected came to us within 45 minutes. It consisted of 4 savory items, 2 raisin scones and 5 sweets items per person complemented with any tea or coffee base (hot/cold) beverage as a choice for drinks.

The first tier was the classic range, that had two types of scones raisin & plain served with mixed fruit and strawberry jam. The second tier had the sweet range, which tasted scrumptious especially the “Chocolate praline tart” tasting so chocolatey and the “Opera cake” was not second to the chocolate tart I had!

The final tier was quite a disappointment because to pay a large amount of LKR 4800 and to have tiny condiment sized food with average taste was not something anyone would be looking forward to. However, some notably terrible ones were The “Crab remoulade with capers and onions” tasted too under cooked with no flavour! The “Free range egg, cucumber and truffle sandwich” was too plain as well and was a bit dry. I hope the management team scrutinizes the menu better and deliver better to live upto the luxury the brand boasts about in their marketing.

We selected the cappuccino and ice coffee as our drinks. The cappuccino was mediocre with a strong coffee taste and came with an interesting latte art.

The ambience wasn’t too bad. The atmosphere was relaxing with a spectacular lagoon view and the staff members were very friendly and helpful. We explored the place and we captured amazing memories of the place. I sure hope the menu gets an upgrade in the future and it would definitely be a stunning place to visit!

Finally we were not happy about the taste of some savoury items, but Kavindi & I are satisfied our overall experience with anantara luxury resort. This is good for you gather around for a different experience like a casual catch up or maybe a business meeting.
